Informations

Pineapple is a tropical fruit appreciated for its sweet flavour and distinctive aroma.

It has a characteristic appearance that makes it easy to distinguish. It is generally cylindrical to conical in shape, with a wider base and narrower top. The crown of spiny leaves at the top is one of its most recognisable features. The skin of the pineapple is rough and scaly, yellow to orange in colour, depending on the variety and degree of ripeness. There are several varieties of pineapple in addition to those on offer.

The following are some typical characteristics of pineapples:

Size Pineapples can vary in size, but generally measure 15 to 30 centimetres in height and 10 to 20 centimetres in diameter at the base.

Flesh When you cut into a pineapple, you'll discover its juicy, golden flesh. The flesh is divided into several sections called "fruits" and is interspersed with fibres. However, some more modern varieties, such as the MD2 pineapple, have a less fibrous and more tender flesh.

Taste and Flavour Pineapple: Pineapples are appreciated for their sweet taste, often combined with pleasant acidity. Its flavour can vary according to variety and ripeness, ranging from an almost honeyed sweetness to a more pronounced acidity. Pineapple's powerful, fruity aroma is one of its most attractive characteristics.

Uses Pineapple is a versatile ingredient in the kitchen. It can be eaten fresh, sliced, diced or chopped. It is also used to make smoothies, juices, fruit salads and desserts such as tarts, cakes and ice creams. Pineapple can also be added to savoury dishes such as sauces, marinades and meat dishes.

As well as its delicious taste, pineapple offers nutritional benefits. It is a source of vitamin C, manganese and dietary fibre. It also contains an enzyme called bromelain, which may have anti-inflammatory properties and aid digestion.
