Informations

Okra, also known as gumbo, is a finger-shaped green vegetable that originated in Africa and is widely used in cooking all over the world. They are appreciated for their unique texture, subtle flavour and ability to thicken dishes. Here are some typical characteristics of okra:

Appearance Okra: Okra is an elongated green vegetable, generally between 5 and 15 cm long. They are shaped like a finger, hence the nickname "ladies' fingers".

Texture The characteristic texture of okra is slightly slippery or mucilaginous on the inside. This texture is due to the presence of mucilage, a substance that can be released when okra is cut or cooked.

Use Culinary Okra: Okra is used in a variety of dishes and cuisines. They can be sautéed, grilled, fried, added to stews and soups and even pickled. Their natural mucilage can be used to thicken sauces.

Taste Okra: Okra has a subtle, delicate flavour that can be compared to that of other green vegetables. They absorb well the flavours of the other ingredients in which they are cooked.

Nutrition Organic: Okra is an excellent source of fibre, vitamin C, vitamin K and minerals such as magnesium and potassium. Their mucilage is also associated with gastrointestinal health benefits.

Conservation Fresh okra can be stored in the fridge for a few days. It is preferable to use them quickly as their mucilage can increase over time.
